At end of July 2019, during his summer stay in the US, Guglielmo decided to visit a tiny american town called Ellicott City, that is part of the Baltimore metropolitan area. Ellicott City has been called one of the most haunted small towns on the East Coast. It was founded in 1772 by three Quaker brothers from Bucks County, Pennsylvania, all three millers, who chose to location due to the availability of waterways suitable for operating mills. Their name were John, Andrew and Joseph Ellicott and from them the locality took the name of Ellicott’s Mills, soon becoming the largest milling cluster of the east coast of the United States.

The town is prone to flooding from the Patapsco River and its tributary the Tiber River. These floods have had a major impact on the history of the town, often destroying important business and killing many.

In 2018, the year before guglielmo’s visit, Ellicott’s Main Street flooded again... Homes, business and infrastructure, including roads and the town’s clock, were again damages or destroyed...

In January 2020 the artist decided to contact the Howard County Art Council having found news of a plein air art competition organized for the summer of the same yaer: “Paint it! Ellicott City”... Unfortunately the onset of the Covid-19 Pandemic prevented Guglielmo from returning to the United States that year, so his drawings of Ellicott City were never exhibited in the small Maryland town.
